Our Beginning
Balancing ACTS was founded by Mrs. Bonnie Mondesir and Ms. Sattanya Robotham in 2003. Bonnie and Sattanya are sisters who were born to Mr. Vincent Robinson and Mrs. Virginia Robinson in Kingston, Jamaica of the West Indies. Pastor Virginia Robinson was a single mother and an educator for many years. All three of her children, including Ms. Terry-Ann Robinson, have unintentionally followed in her footsteps. Both ladies sought to enhance the lives of children and teenagers through ministry, and to help enrich the educational experience of each young person.
Mrs. Mondesir received her Master’s degree in English from Georgia State University in 2005. She is currently teaching high school honors classes in the Gwinnett County public school system. She envisioned an after-school outreach program that would not only assist students with homework, but also teach them how to function effectively in society by exposing them to life-changing experiences that might not take place in each life due to social or economic status.
Ms. Robotham obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Queens College, New York in Spanish and has been an educator for nine years. She is currently working on her Master’s degree in Education. As a musician of over 26 years, Sattanya held a strong conviction for reaching out to children and youth as well. Her focus was on helping each student to develop musically at an early age, exposing them to all styles of music so as to be well rounded and prepared for the varied styles of music in today’s society. Her goal was to help each student to recognize that all music should be inspired by God and used to glorify Him.
In September, 2003, Bonnie and Sattanya decided to merge each vision as one entity, focusing on bridging the educational gap between school and home while enriching each student through instrumental lessons, foreign language workshops, and other such avenues. It was this merger that produced Balancing Academic Child/Teen Success, or Balancing ACTS. The company consists of one-on-one tutoring, a Christian summer camp, and now a family Christian preschool.
The Balancing ACTS Family Christian Preschool was founded by Ms. Sattanya Robotham in 2006. She was inspired to start the daycare when she began the Balancing ACTS Christian Summer Camp program in May, 2005. The daycare will serve as a beginning point for preschool children to expose them to the arts and Spanish at an early age, preparing them for future endeavors in these areas. It is the goal of Ms. Robotham to develop a Christian school of the arts through this program later on. She is currently licensed as a daycare provider and will seek to purchase a permanent location for the school so that Balancing ACTS may function year round without hindrance. As of September, 2006, Balancing ACTS will be a full time pursuit for Ms. Robotham.
